About Design Matters
Design Matters is a Copenhagen-based conference on digital design – made for designers, by designers. It is a place to gather together, share ideas, and discuss experiences. Design Matters involves a knowledgeable community of creative and curious minds who share the same drive and passion for digital design, technology, art, and society.
Since 2015, Design Matters has been sharing stories about new movements in design, giving inspiration to designers from all over the world, growing each year and reaching 1000+ participants in 2019. In January 2020, Design Matters landed in Tokyo for the first time with a two-day event that has been recurrent since. In September 2020, it also went hybrid for the first time, with an online and in-person event.
In 2023, and for the first time in the Latin American region, Mexico City will host the Design Matters conference on January 25 and 26.
Our Mission
We, at Design Matters, are designers ourselves. This is why, every year, we bring on stage the most brilliant and skilled design practitioners to talk with honesty and passion about their experiences, challenges, successes, and failures. Our mission is to spark up the conversation about the work and the role of digital designers – now and in the future.
The Conference
Design Matters is a two-day conference full of talks, workshops and evening activities.
All the talks revolve around specific themes that change every year. The workshops let you dig deeper into a specific technique, process, or skill that you can take home and put into practice right away. There is also variety of crafty activities and lighter evening events to allow you to unwind and socialise with other fellow creatives.
Design Matters isn’t just a conference, though! It is also an opportunity to take part in exciting activities around Mexico City the days before and after the event, such as museum tours, studio visits, and meet-ups. On the day before the conference is a special meet-up open to both participants and speakers, where you can make new friends before the conference starts.
In the evening, you can stay for a shared dinner, a couple of drinks, and more networking while hanging out with your new friends.
A Unique, Festival-ish Experience
Digital design is the core of our DNA. But it isn’t our only source of inspiration; we draw inspiration from the arts, music, and the Scandinavian culture.
Design Matters isn’t only about inspiring talks and engaging workshops! We thrive to create the friendliest atmosphere, while caring about the smallest details when it comes to choosing food, music, venue, and decorations.

Our Community
Design Matters started back in 2015 with a group of designers on a mission to create a place to meet and learn from other designers. Today, Design Matters has grown into an internationally renowned conference welcoming diverse, knowledgeable, kind, and inspiring people from all over the world.
